Caring for Iowa's Children in Foster Care

1st Annual Walk in a Child’s Shoes Event

May is National Foster Care Month and to kick it off, Families Helping Families of Iowa hosted our 1st annual Walk in a Child’s Shoes event on May 1st.  The day dawned bright, cold, and very windy but we had over 125 supporters brave the weather and attend.
The event kicked off at 8:00 AM with a 1.5 mile walk around the pond at Noelridge Park.   Rusty the Clown was kept busy painting the faces of the children.  Nine volunteers from the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids helped with the May basket and flower planting crafts.  Food and drink were donated by Fareway Hiawatha and Quaker Oats.
Dr.  Jenkins from the Jenkins Chiropractic & Wellness Center was on hand for Kinesio-taping and assisted stretching.  We also had two volunteers from Safekids who hosted a table for car seat checks.  Other than the cold weather, the event was a HUGE success!
Thank you to all who attended and to all of our volunteers.  Please mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Walk in a Child’s Shoes event on May 5th 2012.

Shirt handout at the registration table started early.

Board members stick together to keep warm
on an unseasonably cool Sunday morning.

Families Helping Families President Leanne thanks everyone
for their support before the start of the walk.

The 1.5 mile walk gets off to a brisk start
with eveyone bundled against the wind.
